Unanswered Questions
Answering many of these questions is going to need help from people
that were there, so if any cast or crew are reading this then I
welcome you to get in touch with me. In particular Donna
Wilkes, Susan Tyrrell, Robert O'Neil, Joe
Cala, and Andrew Davis — I have questions for each of
you. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about the making
of Angel.
General Questions
- The writers had characters gripe about the decay of the Hollywood
Blvd area; so it had already gone downhill by 1983, but how much
worse did it get? During my 2006 visit I noticed a lot of locked
gates and window gratings that weren't seen in Angel
twenty three years earlier; perhaps it did get a lot worse. Did
this sort of urban decay happen slowly or were there events that
pushed things this way? Did the earthquake of 1994 have any
impact on such things?
- Angel doesn't have many exploitative scenes, which I
believe was a good thing for this movie. I expect it would have
been an entirely different movie had it been filmed in the 70's
instead of the 80's. Was keeping it toned down a deliberate
decision?
- Was much more footage shot than what we see in the movie? Was
there a "let's claim the body from the morgue" sequence written
and/or shot?
- In real life the apartment building was torn down in or before
1988, but when exactly? In one scene in Avenging Angel
Angel stares wistfully at an empty lot. It's not the correct
location but I have the feeling that the scene was meant to imply
that the apartment building was gone; perhaps in 1984 reality the
building was still standing, so they couldn't film such a scene
there?
- When did Boardner's move its sign from the building's
southernmost arch to the next arch? The sign is seen edge-on
in Angel during some of the scenes in the alley but is no
longer visible from that angle in real life because of the move.
- What's the name of the movie that the killer watches in the
Cave Theatre? Update: This has been
answered!

Something Sweet was performed by a band called The Allies.
Is that the same Allies that recorded Emma Peel? Both
songs are from the same era.

In a few scenes Donna Wilkes wears two buttons on her school
outfit. The top one looks like it reads The Equalizers,
which could be an early 80's band. Does anyone know anything
about it?
